''In a nutshell:
Lathe Cutting is a process which utilizes a sharp cutting stylus to engrave or emboss sound grooves onto a disk. Lathe cut records are an alternative to the modern practice of pressing records with metal plates. In lathe cutting a voice coil is used to drive a needle which cuts the sound waves into the revolving disk beneath it. This method has long been used for producing lacquer masters, which are then used to make metal plates for pressing. Most of the machines used for this purpose were manufactured pre-1960. In more recent years many people (myself included) have begun experimenting with utilizing these machines to produce limited edition, unique records out of unorthodox materials such as picnic plates and plastic disks. Because the grooves are cut rather than pressed the resulting grooves have slightly less depth than traditional pressed records, meaning the volume level is slightly decreased when compared to pressed records. However the sound quality is generally complimented as being very good for a lo-fi product.'' - Funky Frankenstein

Every now and then I get emails and messages from people wanting to get their hands on ATUG's music.

Very little is known about ATUG.
All I know is that around 2013 some beautifully decorated self-published hiphop tapes started to pop up here and there in the streets of Tampere. Tapes were left on bus-stops and buses to be possibly discovered by some random passerby's. Somehow one of these tapes ("MXTP" by ATUG) found it's way to Bassoradio and was played a couple of times on Ghettotyylit radioshow. Olli Aarni wrote a praising review of MXTP on a cult skatezine Hai Jump at the time, comparing the unique sound of it to Kiltit Ihmiset and Oukkidouppi for example. After this people didn't hear much of ATUG. It disappeared off the radar, and left people craving to hear some more of it's hissing, avantgardish hiphop sweetness.

Ultraääni released ATUG's two "radio hits" on a 7" lathe cut in 2018, and a 2nd run of it in 2022 to celebrate ATUG´s first live performance (12.3.2022 in Onkiniemi Ateljee, Tampere).
